Dianne Hause: I’d heard about how so many Deaf people worked as printers. I saw them and I wanted that for myself. I wanted to become a printer. So I decided to go to Chowan College in North Carolina. Chowan College. The school was good for trades. I took a 6-week training course in printing and earned a certificate. Then I worked in several small printing shops to build my experience
Dennis Legler: Really, I learned about printing in Oklahoma. For training, you had to learn various skills. I learned press and linotype and others. I learned that and I just kept going. I got a lot of experience from that but not enough. After I left I moved back to Iowa. Vocational Rehabilitation wanted me to work for Meredith. That was a book bindery company and that had a lot of printing involved. So I gained even more training there. I was there for more than a year and then I felt like I had acquired my skills. Of course I obtained more skills as time went on, but that’s how I got my start.
