Video Description

The video begins with a title slide featuring a line drawing of a figure depicting the handshapes R-C for the vocabulary term, Ray Comp. Next in a video recording, Dave Herbold, a white older male, defines the term in American Sign Language. He stands in front of a blue screen in a film studio.

Hello! When we came into work each day we were assigned to work in various areas. The foreman might approach you and sign something like, “You’re RC”. To us, “RC” meant we’d work on RayComp, which was in a dark place. We would be a bit disappointed, but we would be patient and do the work. There were others jobs too. The foreman knew those short signs, like “RC,” “VDT” for Video Display Terminal, “TTS” for Typesetter. We had many different abbreviated signs for things that we knew, that the foreman used. Thanks.
